Email Marketing – Getting Started

Email marketing is arguably the most powerful channel for lead generation.

To this day, the size of your email list is a demonstration of your reach and thought leadership.
If you don’t have a strong email marketing strategy foundation, you’d better start building that knowledge.

In a world of social media influencers, YouTube stars, Super Bowl Snapchat campaigns and live-streaming there are a lot of ‘new & shiny’ ways to get your message out there.

For most, this leads to information overload, causing both corporate and personal brands attempting to be everywhere at once.

If you, your company, or your product wants to see results from your efforts then it’s important to know what will yield the greatest return on your time and money.

This is where email consistently dominates. Unlike the social media channels, if you have a subscriber base of 100,000, you have relative certainty that whatever you send out actually reaches the people it’s meant to.

A good example of this is Facebook, where rather than showing people all possible content, News Feed is designed to show each person on Facebook the content that’s most relevant to them. Of the 1,500+ stories a person might see whenever they log onto Facebook, News Feed displays approximately 300. To choose which stories to show, News Feed ranks each possible story (from more to less important) by looking at thousands of factors relative to each person.

Yeah, that’s frustrating

What this means is that when you post on your Facebook page to 100,000 followers (who you worked hard for), less than 10% are even going to see it!

It’s crucially important to have the level of control over your marketing efforts that you simply don’t have when it comes to Twitter, YouTube or Facebook.

Would you let the phone company only connect 10% of the outbound calls you make? Of course not! So why are you spending time and money on channels that are deliberately limiting your ability to reach your customers?

This is why email marketing is the most powerful channel and why it’s also important to have a solid strategy around it.
